NETWORKDAYS
NETWORKDAYS(start_date, end_date, [holidays]) counts the days between two dates inclusive, skipping Saturdays, Sundays and any dates in the optional holidays range. NETWORKDAYS.INTL adds a weekend argument for other rest days, and WORKDAY goes the other way, returning the date a number of working days later.
Syntax
=NETWORKDAYS(start_date, end_date, [holidays]) and =NETWORKDAYS.INTL(start_date, end_date, [weekend], [holidays])| Part | What it is |
|---|---|
start_date | The first day, counted if it is a working day. |
end_date | The last day, also counted. |
holidays | Optional range of dates to exclude, for example Holidays!A2:A20. |
weekend | NETWORKDAYS.INTL only: a number (1 = Sat/Sun, 7 = Fri/Sat) or a 7-character string of 0 and 1 starting Monday, where 1 means a rest day. |
Examples
=NETWORKDAYS(DATE(2026,11,2), DATE(2026,11,13))Result: 10
Two full Monday-to-Friday weeks.
=NETWORKDAYS(DATE(2026,11,2), DATE(2026,11,13), DATE(2026,11,11))Result: 9
November 11 is excluded as a holiday.
=NETWORKDAYS(DATE(2026,12,1), DATE(2026,12,31), Holidays!A2:A10)Result: 22 when the holiday list contains December 25, 2026 (23 without it)
Common mistakes
- The count includes both the start and end dates, so Monday to Friday of the same week is 5, not 4.
- Holidays typed as text are ignored; the holiday range must contain real dates.
- A negative result means start_date is after end_date.
