Sheetsdrill

Level 3: Lookups Exercise 36 of 68 Pro

Targets laid out in a row

A Google Sheets formula exercise from Sheetsdrill. Solve it with a formula bar on a live sheet in your browser, and it is checked the moment you submit.

The task

Monthly targets run across row 1 and row 2, one column per month. Return the target for the month in B1 using HLOOKUP with an exact match. Answer in B2.

What this exercise teaches

HLOOKUP is VLOOKUP turned sideways: it searches across the first row of the range instead of down the first column. The FALSE still matters, because the months are not in alphabetical order.

A hint if you get stuck

HLOOKUP(search key, range, row number in the range, FALSE). The key is searched along the top row and the result comes from the row number you give.

Functions used: HLOOKUP
