Level 2: Conditional counting and summing Exercise 24 of 68 Pro

Weighted average score

A Google Sheets formula exercise from Sheetsdrill. Solve it with a formula bar on a live sheet in your browser, and it is checked the moment you submit.

The task

Each course component has a score and a weight. Work out the weighted average score in E1: the sum of every score times its weight, divided by the sum of the weights. Use SUMPRODUCT.

What this exercise teaches

AVERAGE would treat every component as equal. Dividing by the sum of the weights means the formula still works when the weights do not add up to 100.

A hint if you get stuck

SUMPRODUCT(B2:B5, C2:C5) multiplies the two columns row by row and adds the products. Divide that by SUM of the weights.

Functions used: SUM, SUMPRODUCT
