Running balance
A Google Sheets formula exercise from Sheetsdrill. Solve it with a formula bar on a live sheet in your browser, and it is checked the moment you submit.
The task
Column B holds each day's net cash movement. Fill C2, C3 and C4 with the running balance: the sum of every movement from the first day down to that row. Write one formula that could be filled down, locking the start of the range.
What this exercise teaches
An expanding range is how running totals work in a spreadsheet. The locked start keeps the first row in every copy, so each row adds one more value than the row above.
A hint if you get stuck
A range can have a locked start and a moving end: $B$2:B2. When it is filled down, only the end moves.
